3.4 million people in the US have Filipino ancestry, thus the country's second-largest self-reported Asian ancestry group after Chinese Americans. The majority of Filipinos are Roman Catholic; due to this Catholicism has had a major impact on the Filipino culture. CUA is filled with Filipino culture, represented through students, faculty and staff, and through events and student organizations. Upon becoming the largest Asian American group in California, Filipino American History Month was established in October. This commemorates the first landing of Filipinos on October 18, 1587 in Morro Bay, California and is widely celebrated in the United States.
